Isaiah 2:22, 1 Corinthians 1:18, 21-25, Psalm 33:4 & 11, Matthew 25:1-13

Isaiah 2:22
Rely not on man who has but a breath in his nostrils .  What is his worth?

Beloved it is often very tempting to be seduced into relying on people with power and influence instead of trusting wholly in You, the Supreme, all powerful almighty God.
1 Corinthians 18, 21-25
And not with beautiful words! That would be like getting rid of the cross of Christ. 18 The language of the cross remains nonsense for those who are lost. Yet for us who are saved, it is the power of God.
21 At first God spoke the language of wisdom, and the world did not know God through wisdom. Then God thought of saving the believers through the foolishness that we preach.
22 The Jews ask for miracles and the Greeks for a higher knowledge, 23 while we proclaim a crucified Messiah. For the Jews, what a great scandal! And for the Greeks, what nonsense! 24 But he is Christ, the power of God and the wisdom of God for those called by God among both Jews and Greeks.
25 In reality, the “foolishness” of God is wiser than humans, and the “weakness” of God is stronger than humans.

Beloved, St. Paul could write - how beautiful and lucid are his words.  They stir the soul and give believers a greater grasp on eternal truths.

Psalm 33:4 & 11
4 For upright is the Lord’s word

and worthy of trust is his work.
11 But his plan stands forever,

and his heart’s design through all generations.

Your Eternal Word is spirit, life and truth and can always be trusted.  Your plan of salvation stands forever and the merit of Your Passion, death and resurrection is available to all generations.
Matthew 25:1-13
1 This story throws light on what will happen in the kingdom of heaven. Ten bridesmaids went out with their lamps to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were careless while the others were sensible.
3 The careless bridesmaids took their lamps as they were and did not bring extra oil. 4 But those who were sensible, brought with their lamps flasks of oil. 5 As the bridegroom delayed, they all grew drowsy and fell asleep.

6 But at midnight, a cry rang out: ‘The bridegroom is here, come out and meet him!’ 7 All the maidens woke up at once and trimmed their lamps. 8 Then the careless ones said to the sensible ones: ‘Give us some oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 The sensible ones answered: ‘There may not be enough for both you and us. You had better go to those who sell and buy for yourselves.’

10 They were out buying oil when the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went with him to the wedding feast, and the doors were shut.

11 Later the rest of the bridesmaids arrived and called out: ‘Lord, Lord, open to us.’ 12 But he answered: ‘Truly, I do not know you.’

13 So, stay awake, for you do not know the day nor the hour.
How easy it is to think that we have plenty of time to get our house in order.  We live for the day and squander the grace in our soul chasing after the things of the world.  We are rebellious and greedy and fall repeatedly into sin and often grave sin.  We convince ourselves that we are doing the best we can and we think that striving for heroic virtue, purity, chastity and holiness are only for saints.  We forget that Christ has called each of us to be a saint and to imitate our Heavenly Father in holiness and perfection.  He knows that we could never come close to the perfection and holiness of God but we ought to be be bruised and bloody from trying.
